Mendicants

Leave me alone! Be abject elsewhere
Don't wait at night outside my door
    All of you I've loved,
      Shivering
        Wanting in
          O my friends
            relations
              nobodies
                anybodies

Who beg for lives like these
Who grab and squeeze my arm
and tell me to testify here
      to trouble
        joy
          the juicy
            the dry

What more can you want
  I give what I can
    though it may be
      halfhearted
        unfinished
          smoke
            and spirit

As a beggar myself
                It's all I have.
